A relaxed coastal retreat, designed to embrace effortless beachside living.
Set in Peka Peka on the stunning Kapiti Coast, this modern beachfront home was designed as a peaceful retreat—capturing the essence of relaxed coastal living.
The brief was to create a welcoming home that balances comfort with understated elegance, while also accommodating a home-and-income layout with a separate downstairs rental.
Working within the home’s modern architectural framework—including existing grey carpet, kitchen, and bathrooms—our role was to bring cohesion and warmth, ensuring these elements felt seamlessly integrated into the overall design.
Drawing on a layered combination of coastal, retreat-inspired, Hamptons, and subtle tropical influences, we curated an interior that feels both timeless and inviting. A soft palette of blues, greens, beige, and white forms the foundation, reflecting the surrounding coastal landscape.
Layered textiles, including stripes and florals, sit alongside velvet and linen cushions and relaxed linen loose-covered sofas, adding depth and softness. Natural materials—elm wood, wicker, and textured finishes—are balanced with black steel detailing, introducing a subtle industrial edge—each element carefully considered to create a cohesive and harmonious interior.
Hydrangea arrangements enhance the relaxed atmosphere, while palm trees and coral pieces introduce a refined coastal layer. Art was thoughtfully curated in collaboration with the client, supporting local artists and strengthening the home’s connection to place.
Sun-filtering and black-out blinds were introduced throughout, allowing for light control, privacy, and a more considered living experience.
Each space was designed to feel calm, inviting, and effortlessly liveable—from relaxed living areas that open to the outdoors to bedrooms that offer a quiet sense of retreat.
The result is a home that feels light, layered, and deeply connected to its coastal setting—a true sanctuary designed for both everyday living and escape.
