Villa transformation for a growing family
A thoughtful transformation of a classic villa, reimagined for modern family living.
This Island Bay villa was reimagined to support the evolving needs of a growing family—transforming a traditional layout into a functional and modern home.
The brief centred on creating a more open and connected living environment, including a new kitchen and the reconfiguration of the main living areas. A wall was removed to establish a generous open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space, enhancing both flow and everyday usability.
New bathrooms, including a main bathroom and ensuite, were also introduced, all within a carefully considered budget.
The design balances classic villa character with modern functionality, ensuring the home feels both timeless and practical. Thoughtful detailing and material selections were used to complement the existing architecture while bringing a fresh, contemporary feel.
A key challenge was working within the constraints of the home’s narrow hallway. Custom wardrobes were designed and created as flat-pack elements, allowing them to be assembled on site—an innovative solution that ensured both functionality and a seamless fit within the space.
The result is a home that feels open, functional, and beautifully resolved—designed to support family life while honouring the character of the original villa.
