Plantation Style

Mt Eden, Auckland

One of Auckland’s inner-city treasures, home to an active family

A relaxed and character-filled family home, thoughtfully reimagined to enhance flow, function, and everyday living.

Set within one of Auckland’s inner-city treasures, this home was designed for an active family seeking to make better use of underutilised spaces while honouring the character of their existing furnishings.

The brief focused on transforming the conservatory and reconfiguring a multi-purpose living area that no longer supported the needs of a growing family. Central to the design was the intention to retain and elevate key pieces, including dark oak furniture and a cherished inherited colonial sideboard.

These elements inspired a plantation-style concept—layered, relaxed, and enduring in its appeal. Existing furniture was thoughtfully refurbished in durable indoor-outdoor fabrics, ensuring both longevity and comfort.

Careful updates to flooring, including new carpet and refreshed timber surfaces, brought cohesion to the home while respecting earlier renovations.

The result is a series of inviting, functional living spaces—from a relaxed family retreat within the conservatory to a versatile second living area designed to evolve with the family over time.

REVIEW
"It’s little things that make a big difference and most importantly give positive design impact. Sandy was instrumental in sourcing and recommending well chosen elements that connect our
different living spaces and create a feeling of “ahhhhh.”
It’s not one thing, it’s the whole package of colors, comfort, charm, textures and clever positioning. Sandy has oodles of skill. She does the hard work for you!"
