Tropical Paradise

Morningside, Auckland

A calming oasis in a busy city

A relaxed and inviting inner-city home, blending coastal ease with vintage charm.

Set within a sun-filled Auckland weatherboard home, this project was designed to create a calm and comfortable retreat within the pace of city living.

The brief was to bring together coastal, tropical, and vintage influences—balancing softness, character, and individuality to create a home that feels both relaxed and deeply personal.

A beautiful flora and fauna fabric in soft blues and greens became the starting point for the design, inspiring the palette and setting the tone for the entire home. From this, a layered and cohesive scheme evolved, combining natural textures, vintage-inspired pieces, and carefully selected furnishings.

Thoughtfully curated furniture played an important role in achieving the desired aesthetic. Unique pieces, including a striking oak console, were sourced to introduce warmth and reinforce the coastal feel, while ensuring each element felt connected and intentional.

The result is a home that feels light, inviting, and harmonious—a calming oasis that offers both comfort and character within a busy urban setting.

REVIEW

“We moved into our house about 12 months ago. We really loved what our house offered in terms of compactness, outdoor/indoor flow and sunshine. However, we struggled to connect with our house fully given the interiors. Sandy has helped us to create a home that we now love wholeheartedly. She has amazing vision and very skilfully helped us to find solutions that would work for both my husband and I (given our differing tastes!). We both felt attended to. She also does a really good job of challenging/pushing you outside your comfort zone to consider new
possibilities. I also really value Sandy’s commitment, hard work and passion to deliver a product you will love. Highly recommend her as an interior designer.”
